Introduction to Rock Chord Exercises

In this chapter we have looked at all kinds of new chords and techniques and it can be a lot to take in. You probably still have to actively think about many technical things as you're carrying out your ideas. Eventually you want to get to a point where your fingers know what to do the second your mind gets an idea. Because that's when you can be completely musically spontaneous, and that's a ton of fun!

One of the shortest ways to get to that point is by what can be compared to musical weightlifting. You're not actually accomplishing anything, but you're developing your muscles so that they can do whatever you need them to at a later point in time.

So, in this tutorial we'll look at some ways you can practice everything we have covered so far, and as quickly as possible develop the strength and the muscle memory your fingers need to effortlessly play the open chords, barre chords, power chords, and the embellishments.

The whole idea here is to be non-musical, so that we can make the most technical progress in the shortest amount of time- without getting distracted by inspiration. And then immediately after that we'll once again return to making music, but with new capabilities and technical ammo!
