Introduction: Five Important Notes!

In this tutorial we're going to explore one of the most common sounds in rock soloing, by stripping the minor scale that you learned in the previous tutorial down to just 5 notes. These notes together form what's called the minor pentatonic scale - "penta" meaning 5.

When you improvise with these 5 notes it has a universal sound that has been used in everything from blues to jazz to metal; today we're going to explore the sound of pentatonic scales in a rock context. Let's get started!
