Now Palm Mute Your 16th Notes

Earlier we looked at palm muting the eighth notes to get that "chuckin'" sound, and now we're going to apply that same concept to the sixteenth notes. This requires some pretty fast downstrokes in your right hand, so we'll slow down the tempo quite a bit for this example.

Hi, I've noticed that when I'm down picking I always touch the string with the fingernail of my index finger before touching it with the pick. This seems to be due to the fact that my hand is slanted outwards, especially when I mute the strings with the palm of my hand. I don't think it has any effect on the sound, but it feels a bit odd. Do you have any idea what I can do? (I‘m pretty sure that my pick grip is correct, btw.) Thanks for the great video lessons so far! :)

Hello - thanks so much for your question! You may have to experiment with the position of the pick in your grip. Your grip may be just fine, but you might be choked up too much on the pick, or there's not enough pick material at the correct angle to strike the string before your fingernail does. With experimentation, you should be able to find a more optimal way to pick the string without your fingernail getting in the way. Hope this helps!!
