Use Our Free Online Guitar Tuner:

Guitar Tricks has made tuning your electric or acoustic guitar easier than ever with our free online guitar tuner. It features real guitar tones, so you'll know exactly how every string should sound. It also lets you select from 6 different tunings to get your guitar sounding perfect before your next jam.

This is the standard set of tones used to tune a guitar. Most guitarist only use this tuning. A popular tuning for Celtic music. DADGAD tuning was used by Jimmy Page in the songs "Black Mountain Side" and "Kashmir". The sixth string is tuned down to C, giving a rich low sound. The open strings form a C major chord. Pressing down on all strings at any fret will give a corresponding major chord. Drop D is the same as standard tuning, except the 6th string is tuned down to D. This allows for very quick barre chord changes, and contributes to many modern metal sounds. This is a great blues and slide tuning. The Rolling Stones use open G tuning for "Start Me Up" and "Honkey Tonk Woman". This is very popular with slide players. The open strings form a D major chord.

To Use:

Simply click on the tuning key of the note you’d like to hear or click the "strum" button to strum through all six strings (ideal for when you want to test a final tuning job).

You can use standard tuning (which the app defaults to) or any number of preset alternative tunings that are selectable from the drop down menu in the "Select Tuning Sequence" box. If you want to concentrate on a particular string, just click the tuning key to hear it. You can also adjust each string autonomously via the plus-minus buttons next to each tuning peg.

If you’re like most guitar players, and just use standard tuning, you can leave the app as-is and start tuning your guitar.

To Tune Your Guitar:

Turn up the volume on your computer and play along with the tuner. Tune your guitar strings to the corresponding strings on the online tuner until they both sound the same.
