How a Fender Amp Works

Let's start out with one of my personal favorite amps, which is the Fender Super Reverb. Fender has made countless classic amps like the Twin Reverb, the Deluxe Reverb, Vibrolux, the Bassman and many others, but the Super Reverb will give you a good impression of the basic Fender sound and their controls and features. So first let me show you how it all works.

The Stand by switch is definitely not designed to mute the amplifier. It should only be switched on when the amplifier is started, before the tubes warm up to operating temperature. By switching it, the tubes take a beating that shortens their life. It's better for the amp to leave it on and just turn the sound down, for example by muting the guitar, turning on the tuner, or turning the master volume down to zero. This information is not off the top of my head, but from experienced repairmen and tube guitar amp makers.
