Description

Music often develops in trends and counter reactions. When one thing becomes really popular, new bands often emerge doing more or less the exact opposite. This has happened numerous times throughout music history, and the 90s is no exception.

After the guitar-centric and virtuosic music dominated the 80s, bands now came out with a simpler and less "educated" sound. It was still guitar-driven, heavy and highly expressive, but it was less glamorous, flashy and virtuosic than the 80s rock. This style of rock became known as "grunge" or alt rock, and bands like Nirvana, Alice in Chains, Pearl Jam, Stone Temple Pilots, and Sound Garden were some of the main bands to pioneer this sound.

This also formed the foundation for the style known as "nu metal" with bands like Tool, System of a Down, Limp Bizkit, Mr. Bungle, and many others. Nu metal also combined rap with metal and many other cool stylistic fusions appeared in this period. So as you can hear there's much more to the 90's than you cansqueeze into one tutorial, but today we'll dip our toes in the ocean with a fun and grungy practice tune. Let's get started!
