Downstroke Practice Tune Play Through

Now it's time to play through our practice tune with the backing track. The backing track is very simple with just bass and drums, so you can hear and feel how this strumming pattern works in a real musical context. Feel free to just watch and listen to me play through it a couple of times before you start playing along yourself! It's never a good idea to rush through anything, when you're learning guitar.

I hope this tutorial has made you realize how much music you can make with some very simple tools on acoustic guitar. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying any of this is easy, but compared to another instrument like the violin or the saxophone for example, you can see that there's a lot of music to be made on just an acoustic guitar!

Should I be trying to make the chords sound better before I move on to the next lesson?

Hey there - thanks so much for your question! We recommend only moving onto the next lesson when you can play the musical example slowly, and you fully understand the material presented in the lesson. So yes, you can move on to the next lesson, but be sure to continue to practice your chords. Hope this helps!

thank you dear teacher. my questions: how could I know to start the first down strumming after the rest?
Mike Olekshy 1 year ago

Hello - thanks so much for your question! My suggestion is to count along with the countin. It goes 1, rest, 3, rest then 1, 2, 3, 4 and then the drums and bass enter. You will want to continue to count after beat 4 of the countin. So you will count this : 1, rest, 2, rest, 1, 2, 3, 4, 1 then strum on 2. If you have trouble with this, slow down the video using the speed buttons on the left side of the video frame and work on it slowly. Hope this helps!
