Description
In this lesson we'll breakdown and play through one octave of the basic major scale in the key of A. This can be found by using your ears or by counting the frets and following a simple formula.
Just for the sake of practice, we'll play the A major scale as quarter notes, starting with a downstroke and then alternating up and down strokes with your pick. Play the top note twice and come back down the scale, bottom note twice as well.
Let's try this with the metronome. I'll play the scale up and down twice. Feel free to repeat this exercise as much as you want to on your own. It's great both for familiarizing your ears with the major scale, but it's also a great exercise in single note right hand technique.
