Description

Now that we've explored some different ways to strum with your fingers, it's time to look at a basic way to mix up our finger picking pattern with the finger strumming.

There are endless ways to do this, and I'm just going to show you a simple example, where we'll start out with the basic pattern on our A minor chord here. “1 2 and 3 and...” But now instead of going “4 and” we'll do the downwards index finger strum.

You can use this hybrid pattern as a repeating pattern throughout a whole song, or you can use it as a variation, whenever you feel like it. It's particularly useful right before you change chords, because it gives you that extra eighth note's worth of time to move your left hand fingers to the next chord.
