Understanding & Feeling The 16th Note Rhythm
First let's count out, strum and feel the rhythm of a 16th note based groove. As always we have 4 beats to the bar: “1 2 3 4â€. And up until now we've used 8th notes, which we verbalized “1 and 2 and 3 and 4 andâ€.
Now to feel the 16th notes you just add the upstroke in between the downstrokes. We verbalize this “1-e-and-a 2-e-and-a 3-e-and-a 4-e-and-aâ€. Try and strum this and emphasize or accent the downbeats. That's really all there is to 16th notes in it's most basic form.
