In this lesson we'll start out with the simplest version of a basic country strumming pattern. We'll apply it to just one chord, which will be our open E-chord. The basic unit of time and rhythm we'll be using is called a "bar" and in this context it equals 4 counts. For the most basic version of this strumming pattern we'll simply do a down strum for each count and loop that.

Hi. I'm able to follow along, but I play the guitar left handed, so I'm a little confused having to do the opposite of what is actually being said.

Hey there - thanks so much for your question! Playing guitar left-handed means you have to mentally mirror most standard instructions, which can definitely feel confusing at first! To make learning easier, try translating the terms into your hands' roles rather than "left" and "right."Here are a few quick tips to help you adapt: Focus on the function: When an instructor says "left hand," translate that to your fretboard hand (your right hand). When they say "right hand," translate it to your picking/strumming hand (your left hand). Use a visual mirror: Watching a right-handed guitarist face-to-face is actually exactly what a left-handed player sees in a mirror. Treat the instructor as your reflection. Flip your chord charts: Look for left-handed chord diagrams online, or mentally flip standard charts from right to left so the low E string is on your right. Hope this helps!!
