Slap Back Delay

When you use the pedal steel vocabulary that we explored in the previous chapter, it can sound nice to add a more intense delay effect, which creates the illusion of the chords being held out longer. Once we've dialed a nice pedal steel delay, we'll try it out in a simple example over a backing track.

I hope this tutorial has given you a good idea of how to go about using delay in a country context. Most of these sounds require a clean and precise touch when you play- otherwise the delay is just going to make it all sound extra messy. But if you have solid rhythm and clean technique, adding the delay to both your rhythm and lead playing can really help add that extra bit of authenticity to your sound. Have fun with it!
