Now let's turn our open A and D chord into Major 7 Chords.

So here we have our basic open A chord. Now all we really have to do is take the note that we have on the G string and lower it by a half step (to the 1st fret). Doing this requires a change of fingering.

Let's also try changing the D major chord to a D major 7 chord.

Now let's try switching between the A major 7 and D major 7 chords.

Is it okay to use pointer, middle, and ring instead of using the pinkie?

Hey there - thanks so much for your question! Yes, it is totally okay to use the index, middle, and ring fingers for these chords. Hope this helps!

This was an extremely easy move for me (AMaj to Amaj7) because I've used my index on the G string, middle on D and ring on B for ages as it just feels easier for me. So, I just move the index down a fret (half step). Too easy! Also, whenever I have to move to DMaj from AMaj, I just anchor the index. For moving to EMaj, similarly I just move the index down a fret, so sort of an anchor (nearly) and follow with the other fingers.
