Adding Ghost Notes
This next strumming variation sounds like a right hand trick, but is really created by the left hand muting all the strings to create ghost notes.
Stat with a G chord. The trick is to unclamp all the notes, so they just ring as ghost notes. You still have the open G- and D- string, and we'll mute those by sorta laying down our 1st finger. Now all the strings should be muted. Strum to make sure nothing is ringing.
Now practice going back and forth between the full chord ringing and all the strings being muted. This is the key to this next technique that I'm going to show you, so make sure you have that down before moving on.
