Before we start digging into all the playing, let's briefly talk about the gear and tones I'll be using for these examples.
For this one I'll still by using my Telecaster on the bridge pickup, but I'll add a little more overdrive to the basic tone. You can use almost any overdrive pedal, but I'll be a modeled version of Ibanez Tube Screamer. Keep your overdrive on the sparser side! You don't want to risk sounding like a rock guy trying to fake it as a country player. Even if that's what you really are! Just a basic overdrive and your Telecaster on the bridge pickup, and you're good to go!
