Finger and Picking Technique Exercise 4
In this exercise we'll supercharge your alternate picking using three notes per string. The rhythms in this exercise (triplets, 8th notes and 16th notes) should all be practiced. Notice the odd feel of 8th and 16th notes. When you play this exercise using those rhythms you'll notice the string switch falls on downbeats on one string, upbeats on the next. This odd accent is called syncopation. It's a valuable tool in licks and solos.
This exercise is demonstrated using fretboard fingers 1,2 and 3. You should use all possible combinations of three fingers to play this exercise.
