Description
In this lesson we'll look at the most common voicings for the dominant 13 chord. The Dominant 13 chord is rare, but shouldn't be overlooked. It will pop up in the Western Swing style and in any song that wants a bluesy or jazzy flavor.
The 13 is found thirteen notes up from the root, but it is easier to remember that the thirteen is the 6 of the scale. After figuring out the 6 away from the chord root you simply add the octave number (that's 7) and you get the 13.
We'll put these in a progression a little later. For now, put it in your vocabulary.
