Description

One of the key components to John Mayer's acoustic sound has always been his use of percussive techniques with the right hand. Slight muting and finger picking, when mixed together, create a very rhythmic, percussive sound that works well both solo and with other instrumentation. This example showcases a two chord vamp in A minor that demonstrates these techniques as well as some varying chord voiceings. When mixed, what once was a simple chord progression now becomes a strong rhythm part that is both melodic, technical, and all the while very musical.

A similar technique can be heard in the song:
Why Georgia (Room for Squares)
