Definition for: Pentatonic

Scales with five tones. There are both major and minor pentatonic scales, and they are basically trimmed down versions of the ordinary major and minor scales. There are a lot of different pentatonic scales, but the most commonly used is the minor pentatonic, which uses the I, III, IV, V and VII degrees from the minor scale.
