Description
Another essential component of Jazz Blues is the turnaround. Even when played outside of the blues territory, the turnaround is a key element of jazz music in general. In our Jazz Blues, we will add the turnaround in the last two bars of our 12 Bar Blues. The progression we are working with is a I-VI-II-V. The II and V are our chords from which we have already added, and the VI chord is our secondary dominant. This accounts for a great way to return to the top of a Jazz Blues. Here are the chords we are using:
I - Bb13
VI - G7(#9)
II - C minor
V - F9
Again, we are playing this progression in the last two bars of our form. Let's take a look at our example and add this new turn around to it.
