This topic has probably been covered before, but I find it fascinating. What album (or maybe more than one, or maybe just one song) changed your life? When I say that I mean either what album or song made you want to be a musician?

For me personally, it was Steve Vai's "Passion and Warfare." This album is king. I was playing guitar before I heard this album, but after I first started listening to it, I played with more zeal than ever and it hasn't stopped even after 14 years.

queen greatest hits 1!!!! the first time i ever listned to music that wasn't my older sisters "east 17" tape or other pop crap like that ha i heard this album an was amazed an i must only have been about 8 but it made me love old classic rock. an bohemian rhapsody inspired me to love rock mainly cos of the bit where we all use to head bang in the car along to it, but it was and still is amazing.!!! after that it has to be zeppelin which shaped and progressed my playin, stlye and sound.

Metallica's "And Justice For All" , Jason Becker "Perpetual Burns" ... Other than that I can only name artists , not specific albums.

Marilyn Manson, a general mix of albums. Marilyn Manson can actually be very uplifting, it's had a very positive influence on my life.

Guns n' Roses "Appetite for Destruction". That's definitely the album that had the most dramatic effect on my life and made me pay more attention to music.

the first Dreamtheatre Album I heard, pretty sure it was ‘images and words’, which I heard at a friends place. I was always a bit of a metal head, but Dreamtheatre was the reason I picked up the bass, and then eventually the guitar.

The tribute album for randy rhoads... I had never heard metal before (i used to be into punk rock - bleck!)
When i started to play the guitar i picked up this album.... first time i heard crazy train in my life was the live version... and i was just completely obsessed with randy there on out

My parents bought me some of the first Beatles singles released in Canada, but the first album I bought for myself was "If You Can Believe Your Eyes And Ears" from The Mamas And The Papas. I still get a major thrill out of music that features tight vocal harmonies over unusual chords.

The Beatles- I love all their songs and it was their songs that made me play the guitar.

Jimmi Hendrix at Woodstock- The star spangled banner. I used to like only clean 60's rock and roll music and i'll have none of that noisy heavy metal stuff until I heard Jimmi Hendrix's rendition of America's National Anthem. From that they forth, noise became music to my ears and my life was never the same again.

Queen's a Night at the Opera- Bohemian Rhapsody. If the Beatles inspired me to first play the guitar, Brian May inspired me to continue playing the guitar and begin to be an individual by seeking my own style and tone. I also like the song Dreamer's Ball. I forgot which album it was on- it's a jazzy number using a 12 bar blues progression- Brian May's guitar harmony/ orchestration is just amazing on this song! ah-- the good ol' fashioned bending! he sounds like a whole brass section of the early jazz bands.

"Lets see… well I play the guitar and when I'm not playing the guitar, I think about playing the guitar. My other favorite instrument, is the guitar and if I aspired to play any other instrument, it would be the guitar...

I can’t sing so I sing through my guitar. So when the sound guy says: “Your guitar is too loud!” I think: "Why does he never say that to the vocalist?"

LOL speaking of tales from the crypt- I also get a kick listening to Louis Prima (I don't know why) and most of the early Doo Wop groups- I especially like it when vocal harmonies form unusual chords acapella. Besides learning from the Beatles, it's where I learned how to harmonize and improvise vocally.
