Vai, Malmsteen, or Satraini?

Who's the best in your opinoin? Steve Vai, Joe Satraini, or Yingwie J. Malmsteen.

I'd say that I can kick all those guys asses... I'm funnier than Satch, I have more blues than VAI, and I'm faster than Yngwie.

Vai, hands down. If there's any doubt, listen to Windows to the Soul, Tender Surrender, and For the Love of God.

screw that, they are all speed freaks. music isnt about speed, its about the actual sound. all those guys are doing is trying to impress you.

Vai is the best guitarist. Satch is the best musician. And Malmsteen in the best dressed.

I agree on Vai being fastest, but i'd have to say Malmsteen is the best musician. Satch has the best hair. Haha. Malmsteen looks kinda, gay... I meen i think he has some awsome music, and I have nothing against gays. I just think he looks like a fashion freak. He gives me an Elton John feeling when i see his stuff on Kazaa... But oh well that's what I think.

I vote james Joyce, he would kick all their asses any day. Oh wait, as guitar players? Well, Joyce played guitar, and he was apparently pretty good. I still pick him, because I want to hear Ulysees as a guitar piece.

I'd say the most original would be Vai, the coolest hairdo is Satch, and the prize for getting the most out of the A harm minor scale is none other than YMJ...

Yngwie the most musical? All he does is the same harmonic minor wanking all the time pretty much. Don't get me wrong, I still think he's a fabulous guitar player but not very original.

I still defy anyone to convince me that Vai isn't the most musical out of all of them. Get some Vai videos off Kazaa (like I said before, Tender Surrender will blow you away).

Seeing as how on some songs (Windows to the Soul) he spent 15 hours a day playing over the track in every way possible in attempt to put the most sincere, ultimate music over it, I think he earns that title.

There's really no doubt that Vai is the best guitarist. His technique absolutely blows Satch away. The reason I put Satch down for best musician is that he has the ability to compose great melodies, which are what songs are really all about. Melodies are what make songs what they are, and all the fast crap is just filler and variation on the melody.

A melody is something you can hum along with and remember once the song is over, and Vai doesn't really play melodies. I have his ALS video and the G3 video. While he certainly knows how to work a crowd and displays some incredible talent, I have a hard time remembering anything he plays once it's over. Whereas with Satch, I can hum and remember the melodies for the Summer Song or the Forgotten long afterwards.

As for Malmsteen, I don't even know what he's doing in this discussion. He's pretty much a has-been, neoclassical wankmeister who never amounted to anything.

Vai may have better technique, but as far as "better guitarist" ...satch wins overall. I'm pretty sure Yngwie really only knows 6 or 7 licks...that he just plays over and over again as fast as he can. I do have to give him props because he started everything.

Why do you say Satch is the better guitarist? I've heard a fare amount of his stuff and imop doesn't compare with some of Vai's good stuff. But I have an open mind. What are some of Satch's best songs? I'll give them a listen.
