Gilmore or Squire are simply as good as it gets for a guitarist. Think about the talent Yes had and it is tough to beat. The police were pretty good for a three man band also (maybe not to the level of Rush - but close)

If you are referring to Chris Squire from Yes, he was the bass player. The guitarists for Yes were Peter Banks, Steve Howe, and Trevor Rabin. I was a huge fan of Peter Banks era Yes, along with Steve Howe on "Fragile" and "Close to the Edge." Trevor Rabin era, while technically interesting, not my thing.

it should be favorite band.because these are the same polls that guitar player,rolling stone,and even billboard mags would published back in the day to boost readership. peter gabriel/genesis, yes, and led zeppelin were head and shoulder above the rest,but it's impossible to say who is the best is from such talented bands. Of course there is BLACK SABBATH and the greatest band ever label would fit perfect on them.

some are not complete bands. i like the ability to put together a catchy lasting song with 3 simple chords just as much as i like artists who string together technical master works

The Smiths! Johnny Marr is a wizard. He doesn't do any flashy solos, he just picks chords and makes the most insanely difficult riffs, its impossible to copy a smiths song, and mOrrissey is by fa the best lyricist ever.
