If at first you don't succeed, you are obviously not Chuck Norris.

Well, because he created music based solely on the frame of mind that drug-inspired music is good or even listenable. Syd didn't take the time to actually become a good musician, all he produced was a drug-induced stupor people refer to as "music." Take a good listen to "Piper at the Gates of Dawn." It's not even bearable. Syd Barret's going insane was the best thing to happen to Pink Floyd since their inception.

Syd was born insane. An insane genius! *cackles maniacally, then sings a few bars of "Bike"*

But it was creative, and I think that's more important in music than talent.

A friend of mine told me a story about some artist that was trying to show his view on society through his art. He chose to express himself by literally taking a teddy bear and stuffing it with crap. Yeah, he gets creativity points there, but at the end of the day all you've got is a bear full of crap. Doesn't make it any better to look at or to analyze.

LMAO! Poor guy...
I know it was only an example, but I don't think Syd Barrett's work is quite as artistically esoteric as a bearfull of crap.

It wasn't that creative, really. It was just a bunch of poorly produced bluesy-psychadelic crap. Me farting into a microphone and remixing it is creative, but that doesn't mean it's music. I personally think MUSIC is the most important thing in music, followed by creativity. But if you prefer creativity, why don't you go listen to Charles Ives and his followers for a few hours?

Well, I think the music is good too. It's catchy and interesting. Different, but still familiar enough for me to understand. I guess that's why I like it.

Ha! That almost got you some rep, but apparently I need to "spread it around" first. I hate that. Why should I have to give rep to people who don't deserve it just to show I appreciate the people who do deserve it?
