Conclusion: Choosing Your Pattern
In this tutorial you've learned some basic technique as well as three different strumming patterns that will cover literally thousands of songs. So if you can get really good at choosing which pattern to use, the material from this tutorial can take you a long way.
The best way to figure out which pattern to use is to figure out how to count the given song- whether it's in 3 or 4. Try for a while until you find the one that you can keep using. If it's in 3 there's a really good chance you can make the strumming pattern from the earlier lesson work, but if it's 4 you have to chose whether it's 8th notes or 16th notes. For that you can always just see which pattern sounds the best, or you can try to count it out. Is it "1,e,and,a; 2,e,and,a, etc" or "1 and 2 and 3 and 4 and, etc"?
So get to work on the basic strumming technique and get comfortable choosing between and using all of the patterns and your guitar playing will take a giant leap forward! Have fun with it, and I'll see you around!
