Description

This song is in standard tuning and is generally in the key of E minor. It hovers around the various modes of E minor (dorian, phrygian, and aeolian).

You'll need to be familiar with the following power chords: E5, F5, G5, A5, Bb5, B5, C5, D5, F5.

You'll also need to know the following chords: G/B, Bbsus2, Csus2, C#sus2, Em, E(addF#), C(+11)/E, Esus4, C5/E, C-5/E, F(addG)/E, F-5/E.

John Petrucci uses Mesa Boogie amps, so we're mostly using a Rectifier model here with different settings.

First we'll using a chimey chorused sound with a bit of delay. I'm using a Pod HD with a Blackface. The delay is 1/4 notes set to the tempo of 102 bpm. We'll be pulling back on the delay and chorus for our other clean tone.

For the heavy distorted sound, the gain is boosted with the bass turned up a bit and the treble rolled back.

The lead sound is based on the Rectifier, and is compressed with delay added. The treble is boosted here.
