Description
The drums enter and take the song to the next level at the pre-chorus. A crunch guitar plays a single note melody that outlines the chord progression of B minor (the II minor chord in the key of A major) and F# minor (the VI minor chord).
This motif takes its notes from the B minor scale in 2nd position. Notice how the notes outline the chords underneath. The progression ends off with the V chord (E), and then an extended chord: E9sus4. Piano players often refer to this chord as D/E (a D chord with an E in the bass). Notice how that chord builds tension and gives us the feeling we are moving into a new section.
