To play the verse which, also doubles with the chorus, two guitars are used panned left and right. They both enter on the & of two, just after the vocal, and play a simple 1 - 5 - 4 progression with each chord entering on the up-beat. At this point guitar left lays out while guitar right finishes the phrase with the bass: 5 - 7 - 1. This sets up a nice contrast between the two guitars and also creates a dynamic dip for the vocals.

Verse one and two use this arrangement. However, during verse three guitar left lays out until the end of the phrase when it enter on the last 1 - 5 - 4 progression.
