Description
Serving as a strong rhythm guitarist has always been Jack Johnson's strongest role as a guitarist alone. One of his unique talents on the instrument is his ability to play unique rhythms while accompanying himself singing.
This B Dorian progression develops a simple set of chord changes that is played with a rhythmic technique that creates a pulse using the left hand lifting off and on the strings. This mixed with Johnson's trademark hand strumming and playing on 2 and 4 creates a very unique approach to playing a chord progression.
A similar technique can be heard in Jack Johnson's song, "Never Know."
