Description

Often using the same chords for a chorus and verse to a song, Jack Johnson's ability to write great melodies always works to take a simple chord progression and make it work throughout an entire song.

With subtle changes, this four bar example displays an example of this in the Key of C. Using Johnson's trademark right hand technique, along with chord connecting, the strumming pattern alternates between the bass and upper extensions of the chords.

This technique mixed with the progressions simple nature demonstrates Johnson's effective use of simplicity in song writing.

A similar technique can be heard in Jack Johnson's song, "Gone."
