Hey all...

Been a while since I've recorded anything. Well, yesterday, I quickly recorded some classical ideas I've been screwing around with. The result is 'Solstice Movement 1', my first attempt at some neoclassical stuff. Anyway, just wondering if you'd like to take a listen & offer some feedback. It's at 220bpm, and I had some problems with digital clipping in areas (the .wav if much better). Also, I might re-record the sweeping arps in the middle because they're a bit sloppy....I found it really hard to sweep at that speed (especially with added taps). This is a sneak-peek from my upcoming second instrumental album. Anyway, here's the link:

'Solstice Movement 1'

All I used was my Fender Twin, my Strat, Boss D3, Crybaby, and Sure mic. I did the bass parts and programmed the drums with Leafdrums2.2. There's no compression whatsoever, which probably would have helped.

Thanx,

Matt :)

I really liked it except for the guitar tone just seemed too trebly and thin

Yeah, I like the music too, the guitar tone is pretty thin though I agree. Sounds like it's being played on the mid pickup :)

Im gonna have to record my Vox Clyde McCoy Wah tomorrow just for the sake of it..... im the only one I know who uses one

Haha, I just listened to "Ode to nintendo".... the guitar tone fits perfectly there...

I'm amazed you actually learnt that much of it, along with the harmony......10/10 for that, haha, good work

Well, I like the MUSIC.

But the playing is sloppy. I can't even tell what you're doing in the beginning, are those sweeps? You need to clean those up a bit, and practice a little more before the next take.

I like the rest of the tune, except for a few points. To start off, I like the more rockish sections a lot, thats what separates just neoclassical, from progressive rock, or metal, whatever you want to call it, very cool. But some of the neoclassical parts, especially the pedaltones are just way boring.

And the mixing needs work, as well as the drum programming.

Once again, I like the music... very cool, but I think it needs some work.

Wow, thanx for all the great feedback. I will take your comments into consideration. :)

Sambob, I know the beginning doesn't serve much purpose and it's a bit sloppy...I might remove it or re-record it. Also, I'm aware the sweeps could be cleaned up. I'll work on that. Trust me, it's hard to constantly hit 'record', turn off the monitor, and get right into the groove. LOL. Anyway...btw...I have no clue about recording whatsoever, which may explain a thing or two about my guitar's tinny tone. I usually don't record on that pick-up, because I prefer a warmer tone, but this time around I wanted a brighter tone...perhaps went a bit too bright. I'm not sure about compression, mixing, etc...my knowledge is very limited. What are you guys using to record? I'm using an old Cakewalk edition...can't afford anything else.
