Rep point system overhaul

Jon and the mods have been discussing the rep point system in the bat cave. We've come to see that the way it is set up now it isn't too efficient. We'd like you guys to help us come up with some ides to make the system better. We're really looking for some new titles and are trying to come to terms with how many points should be between levels.

Here are the existing point levels and titles:

-50+ User is infamous around these parts
-50 User might not be here much longer
-10 User has rubbed some people the wrong way
0 User is an unknown quantity at this point
10 User has made some friends around here
20 User knows a thing or two about guitar playing
50 User is a wealth of guitar knowledge
250 User is a walking guitar encyclopedia
350 User is just really nice
450 User is a glorious beacon of light
550 User is a name known to all
650 User is a splendid one to behold
1000 User has much to be proud of
1500 User has a brilliant future
2000 User has a reputation beyond repute

As you can see the points between some of these levels are pretty high. Even the most reknown members would have to wait a decade to become Reputed beyond repute! :eek: I've mentioned that 25 pts between levels would be good. What do you guys think? To high? Too low? That would be what about 5 reps before a new level?

Also I think the very last title should be something like User is a GT legend or something like that. Anyway we're looking forward to your input. Have fun but keep it clean and simple. Any other recommendations about the point system are also welcome.

looks good! I would think that the gap between 50 rep points and 250 is pretty high though... Maybe put something in there at 100, 150, and 200??? Not too many people are approaching that 200 point... Akira has already passed it. haha!! I'm sure he'll agree that it'd be nice to have a change of title somwhere between 50 and 250.... since he worked so hard for it!

This is the rep list as of since it was added. We wanna change it up a bit. Probably make it either 25pts between levels or 50pts. Something a little lower tahn it is now. Wouldn't you guys agree? If we are going to do that we're probably going to need to add a few more titles to the list.

I would say a new title every 25 points is good.

I think the new proposals sound pretty good

Can anyone think up some new phrases. that would be the main thing we need as well as a consensus on the point spacing. Those are the two main things. The way I see the point spacing is more of by the amount of times you are repped. I think the system is variable in that one users rep points are worth more than anothers. If the average were say 5 per rep. Then 25 pts would be 5 reps, 50 pts would be 10 reps and so on. I think looking at it that way maybe 50 pts is a better spacing than 25.

I wonder if lifting the restrictions or at least changing the "must spread it around" thing is possible. Maybe instead of having to spread it around you can only rep a person once a day or once a week. Something like that. At the very least make it to where you don't have to spread it around so much.

5000 User is in the league of Chuck Norris.

6000 Rep can bend light with his leads :D

(I'll put some serious thought into this a little later. A friend of mine is stopping by to jam, drink and then probably drink a little more.)

I definitely like the abolition of the "spread it around" crap. Every 3 days or so seems fair. Also, I think the spread should be at least 50 points between messages. To make you work for it, like Akira said.

In fact, I agree with everything Akira said in this thread.

Not to be a complete nit-wit, what does 'spread it around' mean? Do you mean, like, some people just other certain people and no one else? Sorry. I'm a little slow when it comes to this sort of thing some times.

Say if I repped you, I would have to rep a few other people before I could rep you again. I think a time limit is a better idea. If this is even possible Jon says that not all of the parameters are editable.

You should add in a "This user is a regular around here" or something like that.

I see the symbol for adding rep to a user but nothing to show the users rep.
As for the spread, heck i'm cool however it's set up. I just get a kick out of reading the great posts and chatting and learnignstuff.

To see a user's current rep title just mouse over the green square in one of thier posts.

I think "wealth of guitar knowledge" should still be in there, but much higher on the list than where it is.

...I mean, I feel kinda bad, as it says I am a "wealth of knowledge" when I'm simply not, you know what Im saying?

After we get all the titles together we can find a proper order. :)
