Thanks for that. Not bad for a 100 gbp guitar huh? I find doing this kind of thing helps my mental processes. It was hard to hear the changes on the track so i worked to what i could hear.

I think this was a followup from december. The best way to tackle this style is just go with the flow. I thought some of the changes were odd which is why i had a couple of missed notes. Sometimes this just adds to the finished result.

You did a great job Nick, had a good groove going and i loved the use of the wah effect. You are right about the track though. It was a challenge and i LOVE a challenge.

Superb. nuff said.

(yes i dont know much theory so i just played notes that sounded roughly good..)

Please check out my other song there 2! :)

That was a great effort for someone only playing for three years. You got the feel for it. What i can recomend is when you listen to a piece of music like this BT, think of it as happy and sad. If it's a major key it will have a happy sound like this track if it sounds sad it will be a minor key like tears of heaven for example. So to do a solo over a happy track play a major scale in the root key. To find the root listen to the very start of the track and see if you can pick the bottom or bass note of the first chord. It's harder for Jazz/funk like this track but getting that first note will give you a foundation to work around. Find the first note on an open string eg low e, then find the same note 2 octaves up. Or around the twelth fret. The way to spot this quick is to look for either the two dots on the neck or the largest fret mark.
If you work your track around that spot it will come easy. So you can work down 1 octave and up 1 octave and get a great groove going.

Hope this helps point the way for you. Just one thing.

NEVER GIVE UP. YOU GOT A GREAT GROOVE GOING.

MAGIC DUDE!!!!!!!!!!!!! Great job, I've listened to loads of tracks and that was sooooo cool. You got a great groove going and got just the right distortion feel, a bit like santana. I loved it. :D

Not bad man. I can see you crankin out some real beefy metal riffs....perhaps I'm wrong, but sounds like it. The note choice was questionable at times, but you had some really good thought, and a quick run or 2 in there. Your tone was also beautiful. I especially liked it in the first key change where you cranked the delay some. Good touch.
Let your soul shine. Its better than sunshine. Its better than moonshine. Damn sure better than rain.

Yes a great readon! I can't pick the chords out by ear. I don't write any of these BT's really so I can't do something like that. We usually are thankful for Julian Vickers in that respect.

Zach dude that was soooo cool. Had a definite Santana sound going. You captured the whole essence of the track with your riff, feel, texture, everything. Man you got mine beat. Great Job.

Thanks for that equator it'll shave some time off when I make the voting thread. to help me further I may start asking folks to subit thier track with thier user aname as the text for the link, since that is how I do it for the threads. Then I can just copy and paste and save about twenty minutes. :D

Thanks Equator!! That really helps me out a lot as I've still not had a chance to listen to everyones take(s).

"Carvin Dude" - If this is in referral to me, then thanks!! I've been dialing in "my" tone for over 25 years,.. and sometimes it just feels like I'm chasing my tail...:(

Is there a formula/code for being able to create a link that you would just click on that says like: JAN GT SOLO or something?? ...

My links go directly to that sound clip/ song, but they just have the URL listed in the link...

Sorry if this has been covered before :o

Thanks,
Rick

Sure, when you reply to a post there is some Icons above the text window. The one to format a link is the globe with a little chain link at the bottom. Once you click it it'll ask what text you want displayed for the link. This would be where you put your user name. then it'll ask you for the actual link. If you have scripted windows blocked a yellow bar will pop up at the top of the screen. Click it and temporarily allow scripted windows. That's it pretty much. :) If you want to see what the code looks like just quote this post.

Shaz - I was really diggin' some of you're choices of patterns and melodies....especially the fast fill runs. For some reason I couldn't find anything to fit in there like that ... even though I typically play faster runs and such...

Tone seemed a bit flangy/phaser'ish to me, but maybe that's what you were going for....over all pretty cool and fresh.... most of all (IMO) you were playing something that actually fit the groove and style of the song - Good Job!

Hey, Thanks Rick...

I loved your tone man... About my tone, that sound u were thinkin of is Chorus, that's all I was using and a bit of Reverb. I love this backing track, so far it is my favourite out of all the backing tracks I've played on here.

Reason why, is cos I've never ever played this style before and it was a challenge for me  At first I couldn't play to the track, the rythm and such just threw me off, cos mostly I'm into speed and neo-classical type rock.

But finally I got down the feel of the track and I've completed my take for this month...

So listen here for Jumpin' Frog Groove - GT Jan '07

Please enjoy and comment

PS. Rick, you gonna complete the whole song? If I remembered correctly, you only had about half of the song done. I'd love to hear the full song with that killer tone of yours which I am unable to compete with :D
