new to the site, been playin for 3 or 4 years, learning a bit of everything, would like to play this on my SG with effects, but I really prefer my acoustics, can anyone tell me how I would record over this and what program to use, I can plug my acoustic direct to me mike input on the back of computer, any help would be appreciated, never learned by ea, and don't have a real good one, but i love to sit down and play my 1700 song library and try to follow them, so i'll give it a try, yoston11@hotmail.com., also, i've signed up for soundclick, and would like some info on how to post to that site

Hey yostonacoustic. If you need recording software you can get Reaper for free. You just open the mp3 file provided in the beginning of this thread in your software as one track and record your guitar as another track. Once you have what you want recorded just render it as an MP3 and upload to soundclicks. Then post the link here so we can listen to it. If you run in to recording problems just ask and hopefully someone here can help.

Well I got my attempt up, I mostly used Dorian and Lydian and a little chromatic run here and there with some pentatonics. I guess thats about it.

Hi and happy new year to you all!!!

That's an interesting BT we have this month and agian not my cup of tea.
I'm more a Rock fan and I love Aminor....

http://www.soundclick.com/bands/songInfo.cfm?bandID=388007&songID=4857968

I like the BT though and opted for a more "jazzy" sound than distorted but only because a lot of distortion is my style.
So I guess you know what I voted for ... I like to try new things and I do it for fun (don't we all).

No bragging by I did my monthly assignment in one take (the first of course) and you'll probably hear/feel it but I wanted to keep it genuine (BS, I am not used to that kind of music that's all!!!).

Happy new year again. :D

Hi, and Happy New Year to everyone.

I'm wondering if there is any way to get the previous backing tracks. I don't seem to be able to locate any using the search feature.

Thanks for any input.
John.

Most of the BT are on my soundclick page. www.soundclick.com/magicninja You might be able to find the rest by searching "magicninja" in the search.

Thanks for the comments everyone. I'm glad I finally got a few minutes, well a few hours to work something out. :)

Well this is my first post here.....(I think...), and I have to say that I think this is exactly what I've been looking for!! -----> This whole monthly Solo Assignment thing..

I've downloaded the past years worth of "Assignments", and most of them are really good!

I'm fully set up for recording here at my house, and I can't wait to be able to chime in on these BT's..

I've been playing for what seems like forever, but as of late I've been doing a lot of improving where there is no set solo, I just have to jump in and go....being self taught with no theory or anything, the whole improv thing is a little uneasy for me,.. Nothing like trying to figure out someone elses solo and then playing it over and over again......and again..:)

Who actually puts the BT's together? folks here on the BB, or are they pre-made ones that someone finds?

Anyway, I just wanted to say "Hey", and that I can't wait to start taking part in these assignments.

Thanks,
Rick

Very good man! I enjoyed your tone and it sounded like you had a fair amount of feeling incorporated. Nice job.

I've got one coming later, just gotta get it off of my laptop to my current computer and upload it.

One quick question if you will...

Do most of you guys (and gals :) ) solo over the entire track, or only part of it?? (Like just the first 1/2 or something...)

That just seems like quite a long time to solo with out getting too repeditive......or is that the point, .. to challenge yourself to not play the same thing over and over again?

Thanks,
Rick

You don't have to solo over the whole track. If you can make your solo interesting to listen to for the whole track then more power to you  otherwise it's totally fine to do half a track. Some people like to do their tracks like a proper song, so rather than just doing a solo over the whole thing they write a proper chorus line etc

Well guys I originally was going to wait until next month to get in on this "Solo Assignment" thing, but I was sitting around tonight noodling with the Jan. BT and thought.......ah, what the heck...

So here's my first try at doing something with more of a jazzier flavor to it.....

Be kind... :o

Here's the link: http://www.soundclick.com/bands/songInfo.cfm?bandID=410286&songID=4871095

Please be bruttaly honest with your thoughts on the tone and recording as this is something I've been working on for the past year, and any input from you all is greatly appreciated!!

Thanks,
Rick
