That was a great effort for someone only playing for three years. You got the feel for it. What i can recomend is when you listen to a piece of music like this BT, think of it as happy and sad. If it's a major key it will have a happy sound like this track if it sounds sad it will be a minor key like tears of heaven for example. So to do a solo over a happy track play a major scale in the root key. To find the root listen to the very start of the track and see if you can pick the bottom or bass note of the first chord. It's harder for Jazz/funk like this track but getting that first note will give you a foundation to work around. Find the first note on an open string eg low e, then find the same note 2 octaves up. Or around the twelth fret. The way to spot this quick is to look for either the two dots on the neck or the largest fret mark.
If you work your track around that spot it will come easy. So you can work down 1 octave and up 1 octave and get a great groove going.
