Hello everyone,
Just signed up and is really excited to see such a dedicated forum.
Well, I'll jsut get into it:
Gtr influences (not in order of importance):
Blackmoore, Malmsteen, Satriani, Vai, Moore, Morse, Clapton, Page, Hendrix, EVH, Johnson, Lukather, Beck, Gilmore, Scholz.
I adore DT but wouldn't put Petrucci in this list.
Doing mostly originals by my miseralbe self these days on a D16. Have not jammed since 2001 :(
Anyway, that's my problem, I really hope to learn much from you guys :)

Sure thing bud! I do most of my cooking on a charcoal grill. I think there's a thread floating around here somewhere that was about cooking... it's been a pretty good while though. I'll see if I can't find it.

Well, since this is my intro thread, I might as well introduce a little about Singapore. (today 9th Aug being our independance day).
Geo notes: It is an island a the southern most part of the Malay Penisula. It measures about 42km from east to west, and 24km north to south.
Music scene: There is an unspoken rule to suppress all heavy metal and "rock' music since it is STILL being associate with drugs and violence. The 'heaviest; stuff you can hear on public radio are songs like Smoke On the Water. Forget Megadeth or the early Metallica stuff and don't hold your breath for Iron Maiden or Dio to be on radio. There is not even good-"clean" Satriani on the airwaves.
One exapmle of how ball-less the radio stations here: they always , without fial, fade off the ending gtr solo for Purple Rain and Still Got The Blues. Really pisses you off, right?
I have written in a few years back and the reply was "not enough listeners to justify a All-Rock station".
Well, when I went to the 2 concerts by DP and Malmsteem, It sure looks to me that there are enough fans around :)
Anyway, it is really hard being a rocker in Singapore, most ppl don;t know what all the noise is all about and think syou are anit-social or have some mental illness if you like 'that-kind' of music.
BUT, at least we have lots of spicy food and a whole lotta sunshine all year round :)

I hear ya with the radio deal. I've never been very satisfied with radio playlists. It's not quite as bad here as you describe, but Houston's oldest Rock station (30+ years) while not being heavy, was still the only station that would "dare" play Pantera or Metallica on occassion. They (Clear Channel) fired everybody and changed formats to Tejano rap (rap in Spanish). But really I can't say I even miss 'em. Sometimes college radio has spurts of quality. But it's hit and miss.

Oh by the way, all public medias in Singapore - newspaper, TV, radio, are state owned.

Yes, it is not easy having a different taste from the masses.
I am often criticized as being crazy for likeing differnt kinds of music .. classical, jazz, pop ....all sorts. I think 'rock' people in general are more open to differnt kinds of music than the 'normal people' . We learn to appricaate many aspects of a piece of music - the musicianship, the recording, the mix, the mastering....and not JUST waiting for the chorus to sing along to.
That's why I love the song Rock and Roll Children, it kind of reflects the kind of the situation we face.
Well, that;s why I really appreciate a site like this. Let's just forget about the rest and listen/make the music we like.
For those about to Rock...I say, what are you waiting for?
