There is not even good-"clean" Satriani on the airwaves.

One exapmle of how ball-less the radio stations here: they always , without fial, fade off the ending gtr solo for Purple Rain and Still Got The Blues. Really pisses you off, right?

I hear ya with the radio deal. I've never been very satisfied with radio playlists. It's not quite as bad here as you describe, but Houston's oldest Rock station (30+ years) while not being heavy, was still the only station that would "dare" play Pantera or Metallica on occassion. They (Clear Channel) fired everybody and changed formats to Tejano rap (rap in Spanish). But really I can't say I even miss 'em. Sometimes college radio has spurts of quality. But it's hit and miss.
