I'm a total beginner and that I've been touching my guitar for about 5 days only. I've been practising on my finger warm ups and that I have no problems doing it. All I would ask for a help is that I don't know the notes of the guitar. Like I said... i am a total beginner. Can anybody please be of an assistance? Thank You.

I alwasy recemend this to new beginners when starting,
out on the guitar for the first time.
Go to a guitar teacher in your area.
If you just want to learn the notes on the guitar;
then check out my web page on the chromatic scale.
You will need Real Player to hear the sound files.
We will be converting over to the mp3 format soon,
plus uploading all new sound files.
You can also check out some of the old threads here on,
guitar tricks for help plus check out thier begginner help.

Try out these links for complete guitar lessons, they are both free.
http://www.zentao.com/guitar
http://www.digevent.com/events/consumer/music/guitar_mania/index.asp

The first site is a very well ordered basic course in guitar playing, reading music and tab. It will get you playing riffs in a few weeks.

The digevent site is a compliation of video lessons. You will see the riff played both up to speed, and measure by measure slowly. There are tabs included that you can download to practice with. Lots of different techniques are covered.

1. learn all the major chords, minor chords, minor 7, 5th, 6th, major 7, dimished, 9th, augmented and many more.

2. You can also skip (1), or after (1), try to play as many songs as you can get, learn to read tabs, get tabs. Here you will start developing you picking/struming technique and not to forget your fingering.

3. If you wanted to learn lead, learn rythm first. Get as may as power chords you can get and tabs of rythm. Then, while mastering this slowly, you can start learning lead guitar but you must start improving your fingering technique too.

4. Pratice your listnening ability, such as to copy chords or solos directly from any media to your ear. This is of course the hardest part. How do you recognize the roots of any chords or scales in a song or solos or rythm. How you can differ the bass sound and the guitar sound.

5. learn... learn.... learn... learn...

SEEK AND YOU SHALL FIND.
Search the web
Get Someone to teach you simple chords
Fingering and Picking
Get the right picks or maybe only your finger
Learn all the sound effects, technique
Learn to play with speed and not sloppy
Learn learn learn learn.... and be patient.

How is He going to learn his TIMING OR THE METER from a Tab?
Plus how is he going to know if he is developing bad habits?ect ect Also should we just throw out music theory?
I/m not saying you can't learn to play guitar on the web,
but mabee some day he might want to play useing a 5/4 timing.
plus be able to communicate with other guitar players,
by knowing a little theory.
Also how do you know hes got a good enough ear for all this stuff your wanting him to listen to plus learn?
Some guitarests can never learn to play by ear, plus,
learn to adlib on thier solo's.
Mabee should have also told him to learn a few jazz substition chords also...............................
P:S Learning from a video is fine for some also but what,
about if you can'nt get your note or chord to sound like,
the instructor on the video who do you call?(911)

:Well, Are you going to play guitar with DEAF EAR? I t is the basis of sound. Without hearing you will never know thw tempo, in addition, normal hearing cannot beat good hearing. From hearing he will develop basic skills such as know how to listen to timing and beats. Of course it will take time to learn all timing but that doesn't mean you can forget about hearing. Of course for beginners, they do not know what are we talking about, but soon he will discover or even better than us. Of course hearing is easy as we said. But the right way to intrepret sound, tune and timing must be good. How people can get off-tune. Because they thought and they heard they are playing the right tune and timing, in fact they don't. Who does he get help from? Well, look around you. There are a lot of people and opportunities to get help from. I suggest him to use the tab as an alternative to learn guitar. If depend on one source, you won't get anywhere. You can learn by asking people, the web, books and tabs, looking at peoples technique of playing or copy from media( video, cd, cassette). Like I said before, know all basic chords is a must. Again about the timing, he can either learn from others or develop naturally from his existing knowledge and interpretation of sounds and beats. This requires higher heearing skills other than beat countings.

Your missing the point about playing guitar by EAR!
Let me try to explain this alittle better to you!
I'm saying not Everyone can learn to play guitar by Ear!
Unless they have Ear training and sometimes its a gift.
Also if you know a little music theory you can build,
or make your own chords by just knowing a scale plus knowing
the notes on the guitar.
I'll be the first to admit i started out playing,
by ear but later on i got in to music theory .
But when i started out i could almost play any note i,
heard on a recording not everybody can do this.
Plus not everyone can sit down and listen to a recording,
or cd ect then play what they hear.
I do agree about all the help you can get on the web,
there is alot of input up here about guitar.

Alan your right theres lots of places to go to learn,
the notes on the guitar.
And thats the way i took the question from warhate.
i thought he just wanted to learn the notes on the guitar.
i know 2 other people answered the question just like me.
and we all three named a site to go to or sites.
And your right about lifes to short to blow a fuse.
We must enjoy enjoy our music plus be kind to other,
people or fellow guitarests.
Plus read What the question really was about!(NOTES)
And the chromatic scale is one of the easyest ways to,
learn all the notes on the guitar.(Theory)
When i answer a question in the forums i try to figure,
out first what the person needs help with.
2.If i think i can help the person i try to answer his or,
her question the best i can.
3.I don't answer the thread if i think the question has,
already been answered.
4.If i do add something to a thread its something that,
pertains to the question.

Your truly MARK

P:S I think this thread is cloesd i hope!
anyway i/m sorry if it afended anybody.

I am sorry too, skee1, and alan is right about it, and I agree with him. What the heck are we arguing it for. Hekekee... guitarist must be humble... at least. And don't be stingy on knowledge and experience... a hah! We proved it already...

I visited your web site(Guitar Rampage).
It looks like you want us all to come there and do the work for you. I like helping guitar players here at guitar tricks myself, plus I'm busy working on my own site.
If you're gonna have a web page, you're gonna have to do most of the work yourself. You have to offer people something. An incentive. Otherwise they won't have a reason to visit your site. Besides, I think I'll just stay here because I like the people. guitartricks.com has best guitar forum on the net!

Mark...zzz

P.S. Call 911 for web masters!
