2. You can also skip (1), or after (1), try to play as many songs as you can get, learn to read tabs, get tabs. Here you will start developing you picking/struming technique and not to forget your fingering.

3. If you wanted to learn lead, learn rythm first. Get as may as power chords you can get and tabs of rythm. Then, while mastering this slowly, you can start learning lead guitar but you must start improving your fingering technique too.

4. Pratice your listnening ability, such as to copy chords or solos directly from any media to your ear. This is of course the hardest part. How do you recognize the roots of any chords or scales in a song or solos or rythm. How you can differ the bass sound and the guitar sound.

5. learn... learn.... learn... learn...

SEEK AND YOU SHALL FIND.
Search the web
Get Someone to teach you simple chords
Fingering and Picking
Get the right picks or maybe only your finger
Learn all the sound effects, technique
Learn to play with speed and not sloppy
Learn learn learn learn.... and be patient.

How is He going to learn his TIMING OR THE METER from a Tab?
Plus how is he going to know if he is developing bad habits?ect ect Also should we just throw out music theory?
I/m not saying you can't learn to play guitar on the web,
but mabee some day he might want to play useing a 5/4 timing.
plus be able to communicate with other guitar players,
by knowing a little theory.
Also how do you know hes got a good enough ear for all this stuff your wanting him to listen to plus learn?
Some guitarests can never learn to play by ear, plus,
learn to adlib on thier solo's.
Mabee should have also told him to learn a few jazz substition chords also...............................
P:S Learning from a video is fine for some also but what,
about if you can'nt get your note or chord to sound like,
the instructor on the video who do you call?(911)
