Which is kinda odd, because there are many female bassists...just look at the bands who feature female bassists...
Smashing Pumpkins
Coal Chamber
Bright Eyes(atleast a female touring bassist)
Zwan(when they were around)
A Perfect Circle(Initially)...

there are many many many of them, but female guitarists...ummm...Charlotte from Ash and um...Bonnie Raitt,...um...Nancy Wilson...Morgan Lander...no I'm all out.

and Hell Yes I want the ghostbusters face!!!

There are a lot of female guitar players. Use the search tab in the toolbar at the top of the page to find several threads on that very topic.

But the sad, frustrating fact remains - a very small percentage of guitar players are women! And no, I don't understand that. I've had the priveledge of knowing some amazing female musicians, but precious few of them want anything to do with guitar.

Why is that?

Oh, come on!
I'm looking to my right as I type this and I am seeing smileys of these colors: Pink, blue, green, blue again, darker pink, blue again, purple, red, and yellow. (And blue again twice)

I know you're just messing with me though. ;) Part of the color thing comes from me having painted so much. I love color, and I really love painting. Only lately I've been a terrible wreck and haven't accomplished anything except to struggle with the concept of Algebra.

My absolute favorite color is blue. I am severly ridiculed as most of my clothes are some shade of blue. Any time I pick up something blue and say I like it I am the subject of many jokes. :p (There you go, I used a PINK smiley)

[EDIT: Or of course we could take the post modernist stance in which we would say that it is down to free choice of what we want to do, and the media plays no part in it. And if I wanted to be pluralist, I could go about saying that representation through the media just reflects societies issues and what the public want to see. But both Post Modernism and Pluralism suck ass. Just thought i'd give more than one side. You decide.]

Well, I see whatcha mean.
But a girl's just gotta' think for herself no matter what the steriotypes are. I know it sounds cheesy but it's plain truth. If you have to take from media what your role or interests should be that plain sucks.

And I'm coming from an interesting perspective. I homeschool myself and take care of my elderly grandma as well as any household chores. After I'm through cooking dinner I get on the internet and watch exhaust video clips and drag strip runs... and hang out on this forum. :)
If I actually have free time I'll read a book or browse a car forum or something. I'm domestic out of neccessity, and guitar, cars, all that stuff are just what I like.

Homeschool stinks some days and is great on others.
I get to do waay more raw material than I would if I were in public because I don't have to fiddle with going from class to class, lunch, etc.

The times when it stinks is when I get tired of being in the house 24/7. :(

Sounds like you lead quite a life...

I dunno know if I could do the homeschool thing..well I could I guess, but I would get lonely after a while...and I'd end up doing almost no work, and just play guitar or read the whole time...I'm very very lazy, well atleast I am when it comes to things I dont enjoy...so I would only work in some subjects if I were homeschooling myself.

as for the media thing...yeah, tis impossible not to be influenced by media, but remembering that we all influence media as well, we are in turn influencing our selves and others and being influenced by ourselves and others...which goes to say that it is therefore impossible to avoid or ignore any influence offered to you by you...which basically means nothing at all, I am just talking absolute bollocks, which, in retrospect makes very little sense...atleast I am in the right forum then!

Whew. Believe it or not I actually stayed with you through that.

It certainly does take a lot of effort to roll out of bed and figure out Algebra on my own. I'm about half way through Algebra 1. Going to have to get the Algebra 2 book soon *cringes*. For History I just read anything that was written a few years ago or anything interesting and educational. For English I have another book.

It does suck how lonely one gets. :( And the only other people who homeschool are just weird.

Probably.
But really what I meant is they are usually really religious. That's not bad but I'm just not all into talking about the Bible constantly. I have been raised in a Christian household. It sucks. It really does.
I can't even go for a walk outside alone. I start to go crazy. It's too controlling.
