Isnt it logical that that should be the case, however unfair that it may be.

The problem I have with the current version of feminism is the corrupted way that it gets applied.

In it's true form, 'equal rights for women' should mean that any woman who wants to, should be able to learn the necessary skills to become a plumber. I say YES, that's how it should be! Anyone should be able to pursue any career path they choose, and succeed or fail on their own merits.

That concept has been perverted into affirmitive action idiocy that claims half of the plumbers should be female, since half of the populace is female. That's just wrong!

It kind of interferes when you're one of those sexist bastards as previously mention. Joking of course, all kidding aside it's hard to find a girlfriend when the only place you look is through the blinds on your windows. My girlfriend has yet to walk by and hold up a sign that says "come out. I'm all yours".

To say that the music industry is sexist because theres a distinct lack of female guitaring role models its utter rubbish!! There are tonnes of female artists, its 50/50 between male and female in music right?, and just because these female artisits/guitarists lie in different genres doesnt imply they arent given the same opportunities as male guitarists.

Why should it bother you that theres no females you know playing guitar? Whats gender got to do with anything? Are there any people you teach who are blind? If not, does that bother you? I think your being what you would call sexist!

Theres a lack of female rock guitarists therefore the music industry is sexist *yawns* gimmie a break!

Heh Id love to be a women, you have more rights than men in todays society and in the cases where you feel you dont you get to cry sexism!!

Okay, I definitely don't recall ever saying that there was sexism in the music industry. There was someone who said sexism doesn't exist, and I was replying that because thats bull ****. Sexism sadly still exists today in some cases (not all).
I wasn't being sexist, just as a female guitarist I'm allowed to be concerned as to why other females don't participate in the activities I do.
If I am sexist I don't care. I mean guys can be total pigs. If I were sexist I wouldn't give guitar lessons to guy. I'm not a die hard feminist or anything.
Anyways my point is don't put words in my mouth and antagonize me.

Im sure its something like 54% female.. which is significantly above what you might expect. But, if you toss a coin 100 times theres more chance than not that it will not be 50 tails and 50 heads!

LOL, ok, your trying your hardest to be sexist now :p
Anyways my point is don't put words in my mouth and antagonize me.

I didnt say you were the one who said their was sexism in the music industry, it was burnout, but you obviously agreed with burnout when you said the guy who said there wasnt sexism was wrong. (unless you just replied without reading the thread fully).

Anyway, are any of the people you teach blondes? Are they all black haired or brown haired? If so, are you going to make a concious effect to get more blonde players!
I think your describing whats known as positive sexism! Which, contrary to its title, is hardly positive! If you werent a sexist person then you would make nothing of the fact all your students are male, it would be irrelevant.

Ah.. sexism, feminism... too much bitching that I just don't get. Personally I don't think I could ever seriously condescend on anyone in such a manner as though I'm dominant or I'm getting the ****-end of the stick or whatever. I mean, c'mon, I might not be walkin in the room with a new woman every week (or year... I mean decade... times 2... plus 1) but that doesn't mean I don't appreciate them or anything all the same. Personally I like women... a lot. Some of them are really cool. Take my colleague's girlfriend for example. In no size shape or manner, when she's around does anyone feel like the proverbial third wheel. Sure she'll say something like "you really ought to get a girlfriend" to which I say "can it whore", but it's all in humor and no one gets offended or wages some sort of equal rights movement. And in my opinion that's how it should be. My reasons for not dating are a many, but that doesn't mean I look down on the gender as a whole and it always blows my mind when someone does. My mom's last boyfriend was a real crooked guy. He acted like the world revolved around him and his billions of hypocrisies and the moment he slipped up it was her fault and that was it. I'm all for equal rights and everything. By equal rights I mean, go ahead and vote for all I care, go to the same schools, get the same jobs, do whatever you want. I don't care, it's not my life so why should I care? Just enjoy yourself. And this is how I stand on pretty much everything regarding everything. I really don't care about any personal preferances beyond my own because they typically don't involve me or interfere with anything I want to do so why patronize myself with someone else's personal life. For example, homosexuality. I really don't care what anyone does behind closed doors, let alone gays/lesbians. It's their life and if they're really happy with it then who am I to put an end to it? Until I run out of things to do with my life, I'm not going to even develop the slightest interest in anything related. Any and every time I talk down about anyone in any personal preferance type deal it's probably going to be around people that are close friends and know that I'm full of ****... well, maybe that doesn't include environmentalists, but you get the idea. Only problem is in the instance that there's someone present that isn't aware/used to/forewarned about my extremely eccentric personality will typically get the wrong idea or have no clue what I'm talking about.

I cant really remember the point of this thread!! Its turned so much!

But you know what bugs me! The fact that people think sexism, racism, ageism, all these isms, are bad. A stereotype can often exist because theres a certain truth in it.

Take for example this crude analogy. Men are more violent than women, its a fact, they are the stronger of the two sexes and its undeniable they commit more voilent crimes.
So would you say I was sexist If I got on a bus, and chose the seat free beside the women, instead of the free one beside the guy? Surely its logical for me to pick the one beside the woman as its a 50/50 decision to make between the seats aside from the fact that women, in general, are far less dangerous!
A crap analogy I know.

I think people are far too sensitive these days. Im not sexist, or racist, but theres times where I, and everyone else, subconciously makes decisions based on the sort of logic I mentioned above and it gets branded as sexism or racism.

If you ask me, racism and sexism dont exist, or at least not how the definitions of those words deem.

I think all stereotypes start because they contain truth...It may be unfair and generalised, but there is a reason why they became wterotypical views.

As for the purpose of the thread...I was bored and curious to see how many female guitarists we had on this forum(was that sexist of me?,then again, a male thread would be like all the other threads here...and oh wait! is the forum sexist because there are more men than women...wait...I am talking ****!)

Yeah...sterotypes are very generalised, unfair and BAD! but they ALL are founded on somthing!(not everone will be typical to their demographic, of course, but either, many will, or at some point many were)

Hate me for saying it, but it is true!

why is it that when a women holds pro-female views, that is called feminism, which is laudable, yet a man with pro-male views is called a chauvanist and is frowned upon?

not a compliant, I am something of a male feminist myself...tis just an observation.

Its relevant to me as a female gutiarist to want to know other female guitarist are out there. Its not about the guys students, or I wouldn't teach them. Rather its about the lack of girl students. So if I'm sexist for wondering why more girls aren't doing the same activity as me, then I am. And you're really going over-kill on this and being a typical sensitive liberal sounding pansy (no offense to liberals, just another good old stereotype put in there).

They're out there. Look at Joan Jett, not exactly much for listening, but she plays. As far as capable female guitarists, I know of Bonnie Raitt. I saw a video of her playing a few years ago, not my style of music, but she wasn't bad.
