Description

Now it's time to take our pattern and our example one step further by adding a simple, but super powerful embellishment. Start with the example so far. Now all we're going to add is when we hit the alternating bass notes, we'll hammer-on to them from the open strings.

So on G, you'll pluck the open A string and immediately hammer on to the 2nd fret. Try and get it in rhythm, so it's “1 and a 2 e and a”.

On C it'll be the same thing, but on the D-string, going open and hammering on the 2nd fret.

For D you could add a hammer-on on the A-string if you wanted, but let's just keep it simple and stick with the alternating bass from the previous lesson.

Then we're back to G and we'll do the pattern with the hammer-on once and then we'll end on the strum like before.

Now let's practice the pattern so far, extra slowly with the metronome. Remember that the tempo I've picked may be too fast or to slow for you, so in that case you can just do the exercise on your own.
