Description
First let’s dig in and learn the chord progression behind the intro to our song. This sets us up for the rest of the track, and also features our main melody which we will cover in our next lesson.
Our intro is eight bars long, and is the following chord progression:
|| G C - G - G - D - D - G - D - G ||
We will be applying what's called the "boom chuck" technique for our rhythm, which we will be working with throughout the entire song. I think of song as having two different phrasings of rhythm: the first measure being on all up beats, and the second where you sneak in some sixteenth notes after beats 2 and 4.
This sets us up for the entire song, as these chords and rhythm go the entire time with a few variations in the chord progression which we will look at later in our tutorial.
