Shawn Lane for technical ability alone.
Sometimes I hit notes only dogs can hear.

Everyone is different and and nobody's perfect, plus everybody likes something different anyway, so the idea of picking a best guitarist is a weird one.
If I had to pick someone, hmmm, I dunno, I don't think I could pick someone. There are too many out there that I don't know about.
And God said, 'Let there be rock!'

there are too many good guitarists and they're all playing different kinds of music, so you can't compare them...
well my favourites are satriani and petrucci.

Dumb thread

My "favourite" guitarist used to be Michael Angelo but now i just like loads of different guitarists and like a lot of different bands.
I also really like Jason Beckers stuff. He is a great guitarist considering how young he was when he was playing great stuff on guitar.
I think for metal dime was one of my first influences. I think he had some really cool riffs when he was with "pantera". There are also a few other good metal players like the guitarist from "grave digger" has some cool riffs and a great tone :)
By virtue of their electrical properties, tubes generate a special waveform when they're saturated, which is why tube engineering has tremendous tonal advantages over solid state or DSP solutions, particularly for crunch and lead sounds. Tubes enter the saturation zone gradually or softly, which lends tube-driven tone its trademark yet totally unique character.

I don't know, but it's my guess whoever it is plays classical/flamenco.

WAS Shawn Lane.

Now I'd have to say its either Frank Gambale, or a guy that most of you are unfamiliar with.. Marshall Harrison www.marshallharrison.com

I haven't heard Marshall Harrison play yet, but I already like him a lot becuase of his page on mathematics (I love math)

On second thought this guy seems like kind of a d-bag "Reposting of Paganini's Perpetual Motion played by ME and arranged by ME in 2000" and "ALL files played by MARSHALL HARRISON" is saying things like that really necessary?

but he is really good

There is no "best" guitarist, it's all subjective. But my favourite guitarist is Jimi Hendrix.

you should have used those little dots to end a sentence for its hard to understand what you are trying to say at all.

Yes it is very necessary..He took his time and hard effort to figure it out on his own..You seem to have a problem with people saying arranged and produced by ME and all this other stuff was done by ME...sorta liek you dont like the way malmsteen says that all music is composed by Yngwie J Malmsteen...He composed the songs, the others jsut play them
Do you think a painter is going to give credit to a store he bought his canvas and paints from...I sure wouldnt but thats just me..If they put the effort to do compose and make everything then i say they have the right to say they did it

absolutely!

I figured that in our society it is considered presumptious to compliment yourself on your own achievements. Because when you do you are automatically an arrogant fool. Its like 'when you say you are good, then you are not'. I think thats plain stupid. Why should someone who did something great not be allowed to say so?
I can understand, that when someone comes up, acting like superman, claiming to be the best ever without beeing able to back it up, then its ok to call him arrogant. But someone who is good and knows it has IMHO every right to say so aslong as it isnt in an obviously arrogant way or by putting others down in saying "i´m better than you".

Im not saying its not necessary to credit himself but is capitolising ME really needed

Im just an extrememly modest person and it bethers me when people feel they have to announce their talents (as good as they may be)

I'm probably in the top 3 guitarists at my school, but when I had teachers asking me in the beginning of the year what my talents are Ive never mentioned guitar
