You can play any style on any guitar.

Some guitars suit better styles, but any guitar will work for any style you're looking to play.

That sounds like a pretty good price, I'd make sure everything works and there isn't anything major wrong with it.

I recently played on a Les Paul Standard, the thing was very sweet, and beautiful. I rocked away with my usual stuff and didn't have a problem.

Sometimes I hit notes only dogs can hear.

Doesnt sound like a Gibson Les Paul standard, you sure it isnt a "Gibson Les Paul studio"? They are way cheaper and go for about $500 2nd hand. Watch out for wrongly badged gibsons! Ive seen people pay $1200 for a Gibson Les Paul Swampash! The guy said it was a standard but its really a studio! They should cost no more that $800

I would definately have a closer look before you buy. Its one o those things that sound too good to be true. Also I would ask around see if anyone you knows bought second hand stuff from the shop.
As for what styles whatevers your bag baby. Blues, Rock, Jazz, Metal, Pop. I'd probably rule out classical perhaps.

ps. if it does turn out to be a studio just say no.

Yep I bet it is a studio (an entirely respectable axe, I have one :)). The price is about right for second hand, defiantly not the bargain of a life time. You may be able to find a studio cheaper on eBay. I think the regular price on line is about 1049 or 1149 USD however, if it plays well, you like it and can afford it...well why not!

Well to start with Standards dont come in cream. The Gibson logo on a Standard is a perloid inlay, studios typically just have Gibson printed on. Its hard to describe the differences because they are small but obvious, basically the fact its cream says it isnt a standard! jus let it go :( look on ebay for guitars anyway! You can get a studio for $400 and a standard for $900 if your lucky! Later

If you want to be really sure, just take note of the serial and run it tru gibson's serial history.

I haven't visited their website in ages but they had all the info there before.

I have a SG and I play all style with it. Well not Jazz cause I can't play jazz lol

Eric (forgot his last name)the guitarist from testament used to play with a Les Paul, those guys were heavy!!!

I think standards definately sound better than Studios, and Gothics and classics for that matter. I duno why it is, maybe the wood, but Standards really do sound miles better. Plus the hold there value better, and look awesome!
