Doesnt sound like a Gibson Les Paul standard, you sure it isnt a "Gibson Les Paul studio"? They are way cheaper and go for about $500 2nd hand. Watch out for wrongly badged gibsons! Ive seen people pay $1200 for a Gibson Les Paul Swampash! The guy said it was a standard but its really a studio! They should cost no more that $800
