Some guitars suit better styles, but any guitar will work for any style you're looking to play.
That sounds like a pretty good price, I'd make sure everything works and there isn't anything major wrong with it.
I recently played on a Les Paul Standard, the thing was very sweet, and beautiful. I rocked away with my usual stuff and didn't have a problem.
