Shine on you crazy diamond, parts 1,3 and 7 - Pink Floyd
November Rain - GNR - all three solos
One - Metallica - both solos
... and that's all I have to say about that.

most memorable to me: Living Colour "Cult of Personality" 1988 -- I can still remember that moment perfectly. I was getting ready to go to work, puttin' on my shoes, watching MTV and it came on. I was blown away. I called in sick and busted out my Strat. It was time to start over. Vernon Reid is the Man!

Vai's playing on that disk was amazing. I don't hear too much about him these days but I busted out Passion and Warfare the other night and was still impressed with it.

Rush - from "exit stage left"., la villa strangiato, 2nd solo. The start solo from Xanadu is also beautiful.
Joe Satriani - probably "Why" from the Extremist or Crushing day from Surfing with the Alien or the Forgotten from Flying in a blue dream but the guy rarely writes a passe solo and has tons of top solos.
Dream Theater, ytse jam. Killer solo!
If I couldn't laugh at myself how could I laugh at someone less ridiculous?

Zakk Wylde, Live and Loud....if you've seen it you know what i'm talking about. (and there's one from the late 80's where he's only been playing for 5 years, it really pisses you off when you hear it and realize he's only been playing for 5 years lol)
Besides that, Anything John Petrucci plays oh oh oh remember the first time you ever heard the Heartbreaker solo (Zeppelin not Benetar) ? that's always a good one.

I second "La Villa Strangiato", but I only know the album version from "Hemispheres". Alex Lifeson comes up with some of the most inventive and novel solos; not just pentatonic noodling (except maybe on their first album ;))
... and that's all I have to say about that.

Oh yeah, I forgot about No more tears! What a great build-up to a rockin' solo! It's just perfect!
... and that's all I have to say about that.

Vai- The Audience is Listening.
Ozzy- Mamma I'm Coming Home.
Extreme- Intro to Mamma (Don't Wanna Go to School Today)

Nuno Bettencourt is one of my favs. It's a shame a lot of his solo effort sucked, IMHO.

Best solo I've ever heard is actually a keyboard solo that sounds like it was written on guitar.
Saga-Ice Nice, off the first album
Totally impossible to do on the guitar or guitar synth but definitely the most tasteful & melodic solo I've ever heard.
