GnR Bias
In another post someone mentioned this was a Guns n Roses forum. Dya think it is overly pro guns n roses or are there just a couple of die hard fans. I kinda thought GnR were a highly repected band amoungst everyone!

I won´t say that I´m a die hard fan. Actally I don´t like anyone that much so that I´m always obssesed. It comes periods when I like this and that band and during that period that band is evrything. Now there are about 15 bands that comes and goes all time and Guns are definitly one of those.
Actally I haven´t heard a bad song by Guns except My World.

haha, i think its just you, axl, that posts about guns n roses constantly. lol
I enjoy the roses, but they're hardly the most respected band in my eyes. only dig is that axel is a whiney git, I swear he's phil collins' half brother or something.

I've never heard anybody who hates GNR generaly , specificaly no body doesn't like Slash or the old band.... And "Apetite for Destruction" will always be one of the best Rock albums ever.

I think there are a few ppl on the forum that don't rate Slash as a top guitarist, they just keep quiet cos theres a lotta fans on here.

I dont rate slash as one of my top guitarists, and im open to saying it, its my opinion, and it wouldn't be my opinion if I didn't share it. I personally feel that alot more respect should be given to other guitarists, petrucci, angelo, vaughan.

Note he said 'a top guitarist'
Slash is one of my favourite guitarists, all though Izzy has always been my guitar hero.

I didn't really like Gilby either. N I prefer Izzy's voice to Axl's. I think he should in The Project I mentioned about a week ago.

Yeah, its pretty certain Izzy wont tour with the Project so it would be pointless being the vocalist himself.

On the Slash site I look at there was a mention of Josh Todd of Buckcherry doing the vocals, but he didn't get on with the band. Thats a shame coz I think Josh has a great voice and his previous work is very GnR in style.

I'm pretty much anti-GNR, as i've said before (a long long long time ago)...
I dont rate slash highly at all, I dont rate thier (IMO) cringe worthy production. Axl's vocals have always brought out the agrevated bitter git in me. Lyrically one of the worst things i've come across. I've listened to appatite for destruction and to "use your illusions" and not so much of "the speghitti incident". It just sounds like patronising, cheesy, contrived drivel to me. It lacks any real artistic concept or depth. Listening to such weak material really does make you admire "Day Dream nation" and other great indie- alternative material that started to materialise towards the end of the eighties that never got the credit it deserved... To be honest, I dont veiw it as anything more than a 2nd class aerosmith cover band. I just dont find anything that makes me sit up, and pay attention..
Sorry about this out pouring, it's not a dig at GnR fans... It's just that i find GnR a great example of real formulaec, chauvanist emptiness...
Having said this I'm also profoundly anti: pearl jam (corprate angst *cringe*), White snake, Bon Jovi, and anything hair metal and corprate...
It's just that when i started out, all me peers, and the poeple i looked upto infact, went down the Metalica, GnR route, and i was never into that, I liked hendrix but not really for his musicainship, but for his creative out-bursts, and for his stylish songwriting. I then go into Sonic Youth, REM, Guided by Voices, Folk Implosion, Joy Division, and alot of other "cult" bands, and I started to get into alot of blues, and it's impossible to enjoy the 80's hair metal simply because it doesn't measure up to the stuff I listen to now...
Now, i'm listening to wide range of stuff from sweet poppy electronica, to arabic laments... but there's no room in my collection for GnR, maybe a place under the short leg of the couch...

I agree with you. GnR is ok to listen when you are 14-15 no more than 16 years old. Its just a rock band, nothing more.
Slash is a good player, but he is stuck with his style and is offering the same thing. I have always been wonderin how come there are still so many people who swear by GnR. Many people want "these hair metal days of blazing shows and I-can-shred-off-my-a#ss guitar playing" to come back.
Also a band that I REALLY HATE is MANOWAR. THese guys should become circus actors.
I also like indie music mainly. I am glad that there are other pople here with similar tastes.
Corporate rock blows!
Now I am mainly into Asian Dub Foundation, The Streets, Roots Manuva, Pil, Perry Farell, Sonic Youth, Primus, some NIN.

Whats wrong with stickin to one style??? He just plays what he likes to play. And he has been experimentin with Asian music recently. As for the lyrical content of Guns, it was just about havin fun not about makin an artistic statement. Well AFD was anyway, Axl decided he wanted to be a serious songwritter on the Use Your Illusion cds.

I know people in their 40s/50s who are GnR fans. GnR are one of my favouirte bands ever, this is coming from someone whos never really got attached to particular bands. I dont find Axls lyrics to be over-inspirational(many GnR fans live by them tho - why?) and can be cheesy and pretentious at times but on the whole Ive always liked GnRs lyrics, especially Izzys. You are entitled to your opinion tho, I wont bash you for that, youve put forward a proper argument.
