Hi,

[br]I currently am playing an acoustic, but am ready to take the jump to an electric. I have been playing for about 7 months, and have completed GF 1 and 2, and am up to the soloing part of Blues 1. I haven't dabbled much in Rock 1, since it seems like an electric would be more beneficial. I am practicing finger picking in Acoustic 1, but feel way more passionate about wanting to try some electric stuff. My original intent was to play classic rock and metal, but now am realizing how much fun it is to play blues as well. And I am also enjoying playing pop songs too. Any ideas of what electric would accommodate all this? Looking for something in the under $1000 range. And also, I am left handed. Maybe I should have taken Lisa's advice and learned to play righty!

[br]Loving the lessons from Lisa and Anders, and the songs form Mike and Karen!

Hey PlantmanJ,

I have a PRS SE-24 -- it's one of the Korean ones, and I got it for extremely cheap several years ago... in the $300 - $400 range.

I LOVE it. Here's why I bring it up:

It has Humbucker pickups, but a coil tap so you can get pretty good bluesy single-coil tones. Also heavy metal and rock tones with the humbuckers.

It's my all-around go-to guitar, and very happy with it. I use it for all sorts of stuff. Funky, country, metal, etc.

Maybe consider something like that because you're wanting versatility.

-Carl.

Carl, I have 3 PRS guitars and just love them. Without question my favorite guitars. And those SE's are just incredible value. I have yet to see someone that owns one say a negative word.

I have a PRS SE 35th anniversary, an Epiphone custom, and an LTD EC-1000. All 3 guitars are under $1000 and all play great. For blues I’d go with the PRS, or LTD. They both have coil tapping. For metal all three will do the trick.

Thanks all for the tips! I've only seen positive reviews of the Custom SE online. I think we have a winner!

If I could only buy one electric guitar for playing blues, rock, country and jazz, what brand What brand of strings are best for an electric guitar for rock/metal?

What kind of metal?

If you're going for crazy downtuned djent I'd get a 7 string Jackson.

If you are going for traditional heavy metal I'd go with an SG but you might not like SG's.

I say you just play what you like, as long as it has humbuckers or P90s, those will handle distortion much better than single coils.

"...we have a winner!" We never pursued what this means. Did you order one? Are you going to order one?!?! Is one on the way?

You can't toy with our hearts like this! And by "toying with our hearts" I mean you can't hint about a new guitar on this forum and not let us know what's going on

LOL. Thanks for all the support! . My goal when I started was to learn to play acoustic for one year, so I understand the basics, and then buy an electric. But come summertime, I do plan on purchasing a PRS Custom SE 24 Lefty! Right now, I have just been obsessing over YouTube clips of people playing Custom SEs. It's actually quite entertaining
